McDonald theme nutella cupcakes!

Donna contacted me sometime in April asking if i could do some special cupcakes for her. The theme, McDonalds! Yup!! A name all of us know and love… or rather one that is beloved to me. I’m a fast food junkie… and on average i have to have my fast food fix at least 2 to 3 times a week! Yes, yes.. i know it’s super unhealthy and yes, i’ve watched super-size me.. and have heard all there is to hear about how unhealthy my junk food diet is. But i can’t help myself.. the smell of junk food just get’s my salivary glands all excited and happy! Give me deep fried chicken, or a juicy double whopper from Burger King over a healthy salad or yong tau foo soup any day!

Anyway, before i blather on anymore about fast food, back to the topic at hand and Donna’s McDonald’s theme cupcakes. Since the subject was one near and dear to my heart, i didn’t have to think much to come up with the designs for the cupcakes. With some special requests from Donna for a girl figurine in a McDonald’s uniform, and a McDonald house to be included in the cupcake toppers, the rest of the toppers were of course to be burger fries and drinks! Yup.. a Big Mac meal in all it’s glory :) Gimme, gimme, gimme!!

Donna loved the cupcakes and were very happy with the way it turned out, to say nothing of the girl to whom the cupcakes were presented to. I just hope i managed to do justice to the one of my favourite fast food joints and that the toppers looked good enough to eat! :)

Anniversary cupcakes..

Anniversary cc 010409

I received an e-mail from Germaine sometime back asing if i could do some simple cupcakes for her as she was celebrating her 4th anniversary with her boyfriend.

After some discussion with her, she requested for a cupcake with a boy and a girl figurine, and a cupcake with the words “4th anni” on it. She also sent me some pictures of her and her boyfriend as she wanted the boy figurine to be wearing her boyfriend’s favourite jacket.

Hopefully they both liked the cupcakes :)

Another customised valentine cupcake request

N’s V Day cupcake in box

I got a request for a really specialised valentine day cupcakes which i had a great time making. The reason was that this particular batch of cupcakes were really really customised. Every single cupcake was different and every single cupcake had a little story attached to it for the couple.

Unfortunately, they had requested that i not name who they are.. so sorry no names :) The girl had requested for these special cupcakes for her boyfriend and each cupcake topper was specifically requested by her as they each had a special meaning for her and her boyfriend. What were the cupcake toppers she requested for you might ask? Well, these included a boy and girl figurine to represent the 2 of them, a figurine of a boy who was still in his army uniform with a handphone in his hand as the he used to wait for her call all the time when he was in the army, cathay movie tickets since they love to watch movies, a dragon and a snake to represent each of their zodiac signs, Mr Bean since the boy loves soya bean, and i even got a chance to try my hand at making a carebear cupcake again!! Yay! There were also several other toppers which i shall not go on to name, but i really thought that this was such as sweet gift since each and every single topper had a special meaning for the couple and was a celebration of little captions of the love. :)

Although these cupcakes took quite a bit of time to make, since every single cupcake had a different topper and required a different colour fondant, i was really happy with the way they turned out and hope that the boy loved the cupcakes when he got it, especially since there was so much thought and meaning behind each and every single topper for this very special valentine’s gift :) Happy Valentine’s Day you two :)

Happy family cake for Joanna..

Joanna family cake in boxclose up of joanna and family figurines

Joanna stumbled across my website when she went searching for a way to celebrate her baby’s 1st month. She saw the cake i had done previously for a friend’s 1st month celebration and loved it and hoped that i could squeeze in her order.

After a lot of persuasion on her part, i finally agreed to squeeze it into my schedule. Due to the short notice, i couldn’t do the cradle for her as there wasn’t enough time for the cradle parts to dry before the cake was due. So Joanna asked if i could add in her son and daughter into the cake design instead. I agreed and requested for a picture of their happy family :) haha.. from the picture Joanna sent me, i noticed that her son was quite cheeky, but since it was Cameron’s 1st month celebration, i amended the position of the figurines a little so that Cameron would be the centre of attraction and would have the whole family surrounding him :)

I decided to leave the cake relatively simple since i wanted Cameron and the other family figurines to be the centre of attraction for the cake. This was the final result. I was really happy with the way the figurines turned out and i thought they looked rather like the photo Joanna had sent me :) What do you think? :)

A pyjama themed party cake for a 21st birthday

close up of valeries girl cake with soot sprite

Wenqi’s friend Valerie contacted me soon after Wenqi’s birthday saying that she loved the cake i did for Wenqi and was wondering if i could make a cake for her birthday as well. I was ecstatic upon hearing this and told Valerie that of course i would be delighted to do her cake.

On our first discussion Valerie told me that she would really really love if i could do a cake with all the soot sprites/ soot balls as she loved them. Unfortunately after some discussion we agreed that visually if the cake was full of soot sprites it may not look very visually attractive. So we decided to go with her pyjama themed party to come up with cake ideas.

The initial idea we came up with was to do a girl in pyjamas with sheep around.. i.e. counting sheep.. but Valerie being the zany and off the wall girl that she is decided to that she wanted cows instead of sheep.. haha.. :) It was a zany idea.. but hey.. it’s cute right :) So we finally decided on doing a 9″ chocolate cake filled with chocolate buttercream and covered with fondant. The cake would be topped with a little girl in pyjamas holding a soot sprite and having cows surround her.

I thought this cake turned out fabulous and i was very very happy with the way the girl figurine came out considering it’s only my 3rd attempt at making a human figurine. I could see Valerie was very happy with the cake when she collected it and her surprised and happy exclamation made my day :) Happy birthday once again Valerie and thanks for giving me the opportunity to do the cake. It was great fun!! :)
