My cousin’s daughters birthday was coming up and she (the daughter not my cousin :p) is crazy about the Thumbelina Barbie. So of course, my cousin asked if i could do a Thumbelina cake and some cupcakes in the same theme for her.

After doing some research, i said no problem and decided to do a Thumbelina cake with lots of flowers and little fantasy bugs. I also decided to try something new and decided to try something new for the wings. I wanted the wings to glitter but realised only later that i couldn’t add the glitter after the wings were dry.. so next time i’ll definitely add the edible glitter when the wings are still wet.

I thought the cake and cupcakes turned out well.. and hope Rachel and her little friends liked the cake and cupcakes!!

Yudi called me the other day and asked me if i could do some sunflower cupcakes for his girlfriend’s birthday as his girlfriend loves sunflowers.
I tried scouting around Singapore for some nice sunflower cutters that wouldn’t cost me an arm and a leg but wasn’t very successful in my search. In the end i had to improvise and ended up using another flower cutter and cutting up each petal in 2 to make additional petals so that it would look like a sunflower.

I thought they tured out quite well considering i had to improvise on my cutter :p I just hope that Yudi’s girlfriend loved the cupcakes as much as i did
These sunflower cupcakes were nutella cupcakes with a gooey nutella centre and frosted with a pale green frosting before being topped off with the sunflower. I thought the light green frosting would bring out the yellow of the sunflower and make it pop

Nicholas contacted me the other day and asked if i could do 2 cakes for her niece, Patrice, whose birthday would be on Saturday. The lucky little girl would be having 2 parties, one in the afternoon and another one in the evening. Isn’t she so lucky!!! 2 parties and 2 birthday cakes!!! Wow!!! I never got 2 cakes?! haha…

Anyhow, after speaking to Nic, who told me that her niece loves Lumpy from Pooh, the colour pink and Hello Kitty, Nic decided that one cake would be a Pooh and friends cake with Heffalump who is known as Lumpy to her niece
and the other cake would be a Hello Kitty cake and of course it had to be pink!! Along with the 2 cakes, they also wanted some cupcakes to go with the cake.

I decided to make the pooh cake to resemble them having a little picnic with a mini birthday cake and presents to represent Patrice’s birthday. In addition to these, Nic and i also decided that we should add some balloons, bees, and butterflies to the cake so that these decorations could also be carried through to the cupcakes as well.

As for the Hello Kitty cake, Nic siad it had to be a white and pink themed cake, and as for the cupcakes, she decided on some rainbow cupcakes, flower cupcakes and heart cupcakes.

Hopefully these cupcakes and cakes make the this birthday girl a very very happy girl
Happy birthday Patrice!!!

Jolene e-mailed me the other day asking if i could do her birthday cake and some cupcakes to go with it as well. She had found a picture of the cake and cupcakes that she wanted.. or at least the rough design and asked if i could do something similar for her. The design she wanted was simple but pretty and was basically a small cake with a female topper on the top with lots of colourful flowers all over the cake. The matching cupcakes were topped with swirls of frosting topped with matching flowers that matched the cake.

After looking through the photos of the cake and cupcakes she sent me, i told Jolene that it wouldn’t be a problem to do the cake. However, Jolene later mentioned that she didn’t really like the female topper and wouldn’t mind if i changed it up a bit although she did like the general design of the cake.

I was quite excited to do the cake as this was my official 2nd cake order.. plus i’d get to practice making my figurines!! Yay!! I love doing figurines although i still think that i have a long way to go to make them look more realistic. But i guess for this being my 2nd attempt, i thought the figurines looked pretty good

The cake i did for Jolene is a 6″ butter cake with buttercream frosting which was covered with a layer of fondant. This is my favourite buttercake recipe and i usually can’t stop eating it whenever i make it.. :p I just hope that Jolene liked the cake as well as i do. Unfortunately the buttercream which was suppose to crust, wasn’t co-operating well with me today due to the humidity and general cloudy weather. So I ended up with a buttercream that didn’t crust which caused me a little bit of trouble when i tried to smooth the fondant. Luckily it didn’t turn out too bad and i was able to start decorating the cake which is my favourite part

I think I’m getting better at making the figurines don’t you
. As for the cupcakes, these are my new and improved nutella cupcakes… with a little surprise inside (which is a whole spoonful of you guessed it! NUTELLA!! Yummy). The cupcakes were swirled with frosting and topped with little flower toppers. I thought they still looked a little plain with just the flower, so decided to add some sprinkles to it. Sprinkles are my all time favourite accessories as i think they really help me to jazz up anything with just a snap of my fingers.
Trust me these cupcakes are to die for! My hubby swallowed 3 down at one go and he’s supposed to be on a diet!!! haha…

As Teacher’s Day was around the corner, Ada called me and asked if i could do some Teacher’s Day cupcakes for her. She wanted something not too complicated but which would look pretty for Teacher’s Day and thought that cupcakes would be perfect as they could be given individually to the Teacher’s and would be fuss free. The only condition was that she needed the cupcakes to be individually packed.
After having a discussion with Ada, we decided on some simple but pretty rose cupcakes for the Teachers.

I didn’t manage to take many pictures of these or any good pictures as i had a slew of other orders this week and cos of the constant rain we were experiencing i had trouble getting proper lighting for the cupcakes. I really should take up some photography classes or something and figure out how i can take better photos. :p I hate using the flash as it just washes out all the pretty colours on my cupcakes. Sigh..
Anyway not sure if you could tell.. but the cupcakes were chocolate cupcakes topped with swirls of pretty yellow frosting and decorated with some ribbon roses and leaves and topped off with sprinkles to make them more colourful and cheerful. I hope the Teacher’s liked it

My friend had recently tendered his resignation and wanted to order some cupcakes for his colleagues before he left the company. As such, he asked if i could do some cupcakes for him. He liked the butterfly and flower cupcakes that i had previously made for another friend of mine, and he asked if i could do something similar for him.

As he wanted 40 cupcakes, i decided to extend the theme into a garden theme so that i could add in more garden critters to make the cupcakes more colourful
Once the theme was decided, i started making a list of animals that i could make that would fit into the garden theme. I decided finally on making some snails, ladybirds, butterflies, flowers, and of course bees

As for the cupcakes, they were 1/2 chocolate and the other 1/2 jelly donut cupcakes which were filled with strawberry jam… yummy!!! These were the finished product. I just hope that his colleagues enjoy the cupcakes and that they don’t get too major a sugar rush and end up being super hyper the rest of the afternoon after eating one of these little cupcakes
