My brother’s birthday was coming up and as usual we would be having a family dinner to celebrate his birthday. Anyway, i remembered his girlfriend had mentioned that he wasn’t much of a cake fan, but loved blueberry cheesecake.
So i decided to make him a blueberry cheesecake to celebrate his birthday. The problem was.. cheesecake has always been very scary for me as my cheesecake has always always cracked. So i was a little worried when i decided to go ahead and make the cake for him. At the back of my mind, i was thinking that if it did crack.. it’s only family right.. so doesn’t matter… but that didn’t relieve my anxiety one bit.
So after researching to see what was the main reason behind cheesecake cracking, i realised it’s either cost the oven is too hot, or the cheesecake is overbaked, or you overbeat it when mixing all the ingredients in. Argghh…

Well.. i just bit my tongue and just decided to go ahead to bake it and just keep my fingers crossed that all would go well. Once i placed the cake into the oven, i spent nearly every 1/2 hour checking on the cake and hoping and praying that the cake wouldn’t crack. When i finally deemed the cake cooked and took it out i was ecstatic to see that it hadn’t cracked!! I loved too the look of the blueberry syrup ripples that i had going through the cake as well. Isn’t it gorgeous!
To oomph up the blueberry flavour of the cake, i decided to layer of blueberries on the top of the cake but as i didn’t want the blueberry syrup to drip down the sides of the cake and ruin the look of the cake, i made a little whipped cream border around the edge of the cake to act as a stopper. Then i slowly poured on the blueberries and the syrup on the top of the cake after the cake was well chilled.
The cake turned out fabulous and i was really happy with the way it turned out!

Jaslyn had e-mailed me and asked if i could do a sheep cake for her. It was for her husband’s birthday and she wanted 2 sheep cuddled on the top of the cake.
I decided to also add some rolling hills and grass on the borders of the cake so that the colours would make the cake pop a little more.

I thought the sheepy really turned out very cute and i loved the way the 2 of them were cuddled together don’t you?

Serena had ordered some cupcakes from me last year and she’s back again this year to order a 2 tier Pooh cake from me

Her request was for a little picnic scene with Pooh and his friends with little ladybugs, and bees on placed all around the cake, and her daughter’s name on the side of the cake. I had a really fun time with this cake and decided at the last minute to add a little tree stump on the top tier with a little birdie on it, and another little birdie near the picnic mat

I was really happy with the way the cake turned out and i thought this was one of my nicer tigger figurines as well.. loved the way he was lounging on the cake
And again, Eeyore being Eeyore, he was busy staring at a little butterfly that had landed right in front of his nose
I just hope Megan loved the cake!

I got an e-mail from Dawne who requested for a Power Ranger cake for her son, Freeman, who was turning 4. It was great working with Dawne as she already had in mind what exactly she wanted for the cake and how she wanted it decorated. Her most important requirement for the cake was that it had to have the Power Ranger sword since that was her son’s favourite object!
After looking at the picture she had included in her e-mail to me, I quickly set about to do the cake topper of the Power Ranger. Since I didn’t want to do the Power Ranger standing up due to the instability of the topper during transportation, i finally decided to do him kneeling on one knee with the sword in his hand.

I loved the simple design of the cake and how the white background offset the red and black colours don’t you!

Yup, this was another request for a Pooh cake from Stacy. As her daughter loved Heffalump, she asked if i could do a Pooh cake with Pooh, Tigger, Piglet and of course Heffalump as the central figurine for the cake. In addition, as she was worried that there might not be enough cake, she also ordered a box of bee cupcakes with vanilla buttercream frosting to complement the cake.
I’ve done a few Heffalumps but realised that i still haven’t managed to get Heffalump down pat the past few times i did the figurine of Lumpy, so this time i looked at a bigger picture of Heffalump and tried to figure out what details were missing from the Lumpy figurines i’ve done previously. As such, this time, i added the little sewing lines on Lumpy that weren’t there before which i thought really helped to make my Lumpy figurine look more like Lumpy

I liked the colours on this cake and again, i had an opportunity to use my butterfly cutters for the border of the cake and on top of the number “5″ on the cake. What do you think? Don’t you think the cake looked so sweet
And i bet with the little bee cupcakes arranged around the cake, i think this would look totally cute
Don’t you?

Wenqi’s friend Valerie contacted me soon after Wenqi’s birthday saying that she loved the cake i did for Wenqi and was wondering if i could make a cake for her birthday as well. I was ecstatic upon hearing this and told Valerie that of course i would be delighted to do her cake.

On our first discussion Valerie told me that she would really really love if i could do a cake with all the soot sprites/ soot balls as she loved them. Unfortunately after some discussion we agreed that visually if the cake was full of soot sprites it may not look very visually attractive. So we decided to go with her pyjama themed party to come up with cake ideas.

The initial idea we came up with was to do a girl in pyjamas with sheep around.. i.e. counting sheep.. but Valerie being the zany and off the wall girl that she is decided to that she wanted cows instead of sheep.. haha..
It was a zany idea.. but hey.. it’s cute right
So we finally decided on doing a 9″ chocolate cake filled with chocolate buttercream and covered with fondant. The cake would be topped with a little girl in pyjamas holding a soot sprite and having cows surround her.

I thought this cake turned out fabulous and i was very very happy with the way the girl figurine came out considering it’s only my 3rd attempt at making a human figurine. I could see Valerie was very happy with the cake when she collected it and her surprised and happy exclamation made my day
Happy birthday once again Valerie and thanks for giving me the opportunity to do the cake. It was great fun!!

Nicholas contacted me the other day and asked if i could do 2 cakes for her niece, Patrice, whose birthday would be on Saturday. The lucky little girl would be having 2 parties, one in the afternoon and another one in the evening. Isn’t she so lucky!!! 2 parties and 2 birthday cakes!!! Wow!!! I never got 2 cakes?! haha…

Anyhow, after speaking to Nic, who told me that her niece loves Lumpy from Pooh, the colour pink and Hello Kitty, Nic decided that one cake would be a Pooh and friends cake with Heffalump who is known as Lumpy to her niece
and the other cake would be a Hello Kitty cake and of course it had to be pink!! Along with the 2 cakes, they also wanted some cupcakes to go with the cake.

I decided to make the pooh cake to resemble them having a little picnic with a mini birthday cake and presents to represent Patrice’s birthday. In addition to these, Nic and i also decided that we should add some balloons, bees, and butterflies to the cake so that these decorations could also be carried through to the cupcakes as well.

As for the Hello Kitty cake, Nic siad it had to be a white and pink themed cake, and as for the cupcakes, she decided on some rainbow cupcakes, flower cupcakes and heart cupcakes.

Hopefully these cupcakes and cakes make the this birthday girl a very very happy girl
Happy birthday Patrice!!!
