Strawberry shortcake cake!!!

Front view of strawberry shortcake cake

Kia Chee e-mailed me quite some time back asking if i could do a Strawberry Shortcake cake for his daughter’s 1st birthday.

This would be one of my greatest challenges and Strawberry Shortcake is an iconic figure.. at least to me.. haha… She’s been around for ages and let’s face it.. all of us as girls have owned a Strawberry Shortcake toy or one of her friends at one time or another. Even now they still have a Strawberry Shortcake cartoon!!

Anyway.. enough about me reminicising about the past… :) For Kia Chee’s daughter’s cake, the design was to be a 2 tier cake with a Strawberry shortcake figurine holding hands with a figurine of his little girl – Jitian. Of course, we had to have the words Happy Birthday on the cake right, so that was added on the 2nd tier of the cake.. oh well.. haha.. to save my breath, i think it’ll be easier to show you what the final cake looked like rather than describing it to you :)

This cake was pretty challenging in terms of the individual stripes i had to do for the top tier of the cake, as well as doing the 3d letters to make them stand vertically on the cake. Added to that, Strawberry Shortcake’s blouse had multi-coloured stripes that had to be individually hand painted on after i had completed making the figurine.  That was pretty hard to do and i had to make sure i had a steady hand to ensure that each line was drawn on straight :p

Jitian

As for the little girl figurine, i realised how a lot of parents like to tie their little girls hair in a little ponytail right on the top of the little girl’s head so i decided to make this little girl figurine with the same type of hairstyle. The parents also wanted the little girl figurine to have her lips pouting out as per the picture they provided me with.. so that’s why the little figurine also had her lips pouting out. Hopefully i managed to capture Jitian’s expression in the picture, in the little figurine of her i did :)

Happy 1st birthday Jitian, and i hope you had a very Happy Birthday :)

Astroboy and Tabo cupcakes!

Close up of Astroboy 3d cupcake

I got an e-mail from Dynelle recently after she came across my website. She asked if i could do some Astroboy and Tabo cupcakes for her as they were celebrating 2 of her friend’s birthdays on the same day and she wanted something special.

Astroboy and Tabo cupcakes

After some discussion we agreed to do a mixture of 2D and 3D cupcakes of Tabo and Astroboy… these were what i came up with :)  I just realised how long it’s been since I’ve even watched Astroboy cartoons.. haha… oh no.. i’m getting old!! I wonder if any of the kids out there even know what cartoon this is anymore or if they even still show this on TV! :p

Anyway, i do hope that Dynelle’s 2 friends liked the cupcakes and had a very Happy Birthday :)

Trying out my new cutters! :)

Another view of 2d Pooh and Tigger cupcake

I recently purchased some new cutters.. and guess what they are? It’s Pooh, Tigger and Piglet!!! I hadn’t had a chance to try these cutters until just yesterday when i made some cupcakes for fun.

They actually were quite fun and easy to use .. but the only drawback is that there isn’t a cutter for the individual features such as the nose and Tigger’s stripes. So i had to paint these on in the end. But overall, i thought they still worked great and turned out quite cute don’t you think :)

Cinnamoroll cupcakes for Christy

Close up of Cinnamoroll cupcakes

As everyone knows New Year has just passed and Chinese New Year is just round the corner. To kick off the New Year and provide everyone in my extended family to catch up with each other, my cousin opened up her home and invited all of us for a Popiah party. Coincidentally the party also fell on another of my cousin’s daughter’s birthday. Thus, not only did we have a great family gathering, we also celebrated Christy’s birthday.

As Christy was also inviting some friends to her home the next day, her mom Sylvia asked if i could make some Cinnamoroll cupcakes for Christy as Christy loves Cinnamoroll. After doing some research on what Cinnamoroll is and what it looks like, i sent a couple of pictures for Christy to decide which she liked best. After making her selection, i then began making the cupcakes.

These were the final photos. I think they turned out quite cute don’t you think so :) Here’s wishing Christy a very Happy Birthday and i hope she and her friends enjoyed eating the cupcakes :)

Piglet and pooh themed cake with flying bees!

Front view of Piglet and Pooh themed cake

Alice contacted me some time back and asked if i could do a special cake for her daughter’s 1st birthday. She had done her research and had found a cake design that she loved and wanted me to replicate for her.

Top down view of Piglet and Pooh themed cake

The cake was to have Pooh and Tigger, and of course the main figurine, Piglet hugging a “1″. In addition, she wanted some flying bees added to the cake as she thought they looked really cute! :) I agreed with her and began making the figurines. It has been some time since someone had requested for a Pooh and Piglet themed cake so i really had fun making this cake. Especially the flying bees. Hee..

Here’s the final picture of the cake! I thought it turned out really cute and I hope Nicole loved the cake as much as her parents did :) Happy Birthday Nicole!! :)

Comfort cab cake for Charis!

Comfort cab cake top down view

Charis recently attended Wee Ling’s daughter’s birthday celebration for which i did the cake. After her first taste of the cake, she fell in love with the taste and texture and obtained my contacted from Wee Ling. Shortly thereafter, she contacted me to ask if i could do a cake for her father’s upcoming 70th birthday.

Closer view of comfort cab cake

I of course agreed and after Charis had a look through my gallery, she asked if i could do a 9″ cake with a Comfort cab car as the central design of the cake. The reason was that her father drives a blue Comfort cab and the cake would be representative of him and his car! :)

After my last experience with making a car themed cake, i had learned some lessons from there and i hope i’ve managed to improve on my car modelling skills!! haha… well.. at least i think i did :p

I do hope that Charis’s dad enjoys the cake and here’s wishing a very Happy 70th Birthday and i hope he has many more to come! :)

Pineapple tarts and yummy almond cookies!!!!

Tarts and cookies on a black background

As everyone knows, Chinese New Year is just around the corner and we will be ushering in the Year of the Ox this year. :)

As usual, i’ve been baking up a storm in my kitchen with the usual CNY fare such as pineapple tarts and almond cookies of course!!!! As you can see i tried to be arty in some of my shots but wasn’t very successful.. haha :) At any rate, if anyone’s interested in ordering these delicious CNY goodies, feel free to drop me an e-mail or a sms :)

Close up of almond cookies and tarts on red background

I can never get enough of these goodies and you can be assured that i made sure that each pineapple tart is filled with plump and succulent pineapple filling. You can be sure that none of my tarts or almond cookies are stingy with the filling since i myself dislike store bought pineapple tarts whose filling is sooo miserly that all you can taste is their pastry which not only is hard as a rock but which has butter flavouring added with an over-generous hand.. gross!!! :)

Pineapple tarts and almond cookies on white background

As for the almond cookies, with each bite well.. need i say more, i think the pictures speak for themselves.. see all those yummy chunks of almonds that are in the cookie! Yummy, delicious. :) Only problem is that with these you can never stop at just one so don’t blame me if post CNY you realised you’ve gained weight after eating these babies :) haha..

Here’s wishing everyone a very Prosperous Chinese New Year and hopefully the coming of the Ox year will bring a good year to the stock market! :)

White and pink polka dot bear cake :)

front view of white and pink themed bear cake

I got an e-mail from Wee Ling some time back and she wanted to know if i could do a birthday cake for her daughter who was turning 1. As she would be having about 70 people at her party she wanted to know whether i could do a cake large enough to food so many people.

close up view of white and pink themed bear cake

Wee Ling had also done her homework and already knew exactly what design she wanted for the cake plus she even sent me a picture of the cake design she wanted. Wasn’t she great! :) With the design of the cake already pre-set, the only thing left was just to discuss whether or not the cake could feed 70 people. After some discussion with Wee Ling, it was decided that other than the 2 tier cake, we would add another 30 simple cupcakes to ensure that there would be enough cake for everyone :)

This was the final picture of the cake. Sorry for the bad pictures.. i was in a bit of a hurry so didn’t take as much time taking pictures this time round :p I hope the parents and Petra liked the cake. Happy Birthday Petra!!! :)

Sesame street racing cake!

front view of sesame street racing cake

Siew Leng contacted me sometime back asking if i could do a Sesame Street cake for her. Rather than doing the usual Sesame Street cake, i suggested to Siew Leng to make it a little different and have the Sesame Street characters racing in cars instead. Siew Leng quickly agreed since her hubby likes race cars as well :)

Top view of sesame street racing cake

As it was to be a small family celebration for Siew Leng, i suggested that she get a 7″ cake which would be enough cake for her family. Due to the size of the cake, I decided to keep the design relatively simple so as not to clutter up the cake. I thought the cake turned out quite well :) What do you think :)
