Giraffe cupcakes with one suzuki swift car ?

 Giraffe cupcakes all

My friend Adeline who initially ordered the first bear and bee cupcakes recently asked if i could do some giraffe cupcakes and one suzuki swift car for her as she wanted to give some cupcakes to her colleagues before she left her job.

I don’t really understand why there’s only one suzuki swift, so Adeline, how about telling us the reason behind the sole suzuki swift car and the 19 giraffe’s?? :)

Anyway, after i finished frosting all the cupcakes, i decided to place the sole suzuki swift car in the centre of the box with all the giraffes staring at the car.. haha… this makes me think of some safari outing gone wild.. haha… but i did think that it’s quite cute :)

Schnauzer cupcakes for an anniversary

 Schnauzer begging

Yay!!! I finally get to try my hand at making a schnauzer topper!!! Well.. the order was for schnauzer toppers for their anniversary. As most of you know i actually own 2 schnauzers… each one of them actually have their own idiosyncrasies but the thing about both is that they are just super curious and are always stuffing their faces into your face to you to pet them.. which i think is always so cute!

 Schnauzer playing dead

As the most common schnauzers to be found are actually salt and pepper ones, i decided to do salt and pepper coloured schnauzers toppers for the cupcakes as opposed to black and silver ones or an all black one. Here is the finished product.. :)

Bear and beer cupcakes…

Bear n beer cupcakes close up

I got an order the other day from a girl who wanted a special birthday cupcake for her boyfriend. The theme she wanted was bears and beers. Yes… beers not bees :) I originally asked if she would like to try a guiness stout cupcake, however, her boyfriend doesn’t like guiness, so we decided on chocolate and peppermint cupcakes. The beer toppers she wanted was actually supposed to represent Baron’s beer her boyfriend’s favourite beer. Unfortunately I couldn’t do a replica of the beer can as Baron’s insignia was actually quite complicated and well.. i just couldn’t squeeze all that detail onto the beer topper. Sigh.. i gotta learn how to paint smaller!!! haha…

In the end, she decided to stick with the beer toppers with a small modification. I would just do up the shape of the beer can and put the words Baron on it to represent Baron’s beer :p According to my hubby i’ve actually got the ugliest handwriting he’s ever seen.. do you think it’s really that bad??!!!

Anyway, i decided to do little pink and white swirls on the bear cupcakes since the frosting is peppermint flavour… to me, when i think of peppermint, the first thing that pops into  my mind is the pretty red and white swirls that’s always associated to candy canes :p Unfortunately i’m no photographer and the pretty colours can’t actually be seen in the photo.. sob :( but well… you get the general idea :p

Anyway, this is the finished product! My stupid camera was actually running out of battery so i didn’t have a chance to take as many photos i wanted. Arghh… Note to self.. CHARGE THE CAMERA!!! :p

Finding Nemo Cupcakes for a birthday!

Finding Nemo cupcakes in box with sign

My aunt celebrated her birthday on Sunday and as i didn’t really know what to get her, i decided to do some cute cupcakes for her. After thinking for a while, i decided to do Finding Nemo cupcakes. I know Nemo isn’t the most current Disney animated cartoon.. but i still like it don’t you :) Added to that i actually have a collection of Finding Nemo stuff toys with me which was a great asset when i was modelling the toppers :p

Anyway, i decided to do some different characters rather than doing all Nemo cupcakes, so i ended up doing Nemo, Squirt the turtle, Pearl the pink Octopus and Pearl the starfish. I decided to do small cupcakes rather than standard sized cupcakes since everyone would be pretty full after dinner and birthday cake and the small cupcakes would be just nice as a little snack if anyone was still hungry after :)

Finding Nemo cupcakes

I think Squirt was the hardest to capture and i wasn’t able to add as much detail i wanted to due to the size :p My favourite is still my Nemo topper though.. what about you?! :)

Garden theme cupcakes for a farewell

 Rs butterfly cupcakesRs ladybird cupcakes

My friend had recently tendered his resignation and wanted to order some cupcakes for his colleagues before he left the company. As such, he asked if i could do some cupcakes for him. He liked the butterfly and flower cupcakes that i had previously made for another friend of mine, and he asked if i could do something similar for him.

As he wanted 40 cupcakes, i decided to extend the theme into a garden theme so that i could add in more garden critters to make the cupcakes more colourful :) Once the theme was decided, i started making a list of animals that i could make that would fit into the garden theme. I decided finally on making some snails, ladybirds, butterflies, flowers, and of course bees :)

As for the cupcakes, they were 1/2 chocolate and the other 1/2 jelly donut cupcakes which were filled with strawberry jam… yummy!!! These were the finished product. I just hope that his colleagues enjoy the cupcakes and that they don’t get too major a sugar rush and end up being super hyper the rest of the afternoon after eating one of these little cupcakes :)

Lobster and snow crab fried noodles and my guiness stout choc. cake for dessert..

 assembled cake on black background

Well… as promised these are the updated pictures of the assembled cake and a couple of my hubby eating the cake :) The cake was a hit!! Everyone gobbled it up within a couple of minutes. The only fault i could find with it was that the frosting was a little too sweet.. at least for me :p but my hubby loved it. Think the next time i do make this, i’ll reduce the amount of sugar in the frosting :)

Here’s the birthday boy making a wish, blowing out the candles and of course having his first bite of cake.. i thought the last pic of him eating the cake was hilarious!!!

Dinner was fantastic as well as my hubby’s parents just arrived back from Perth bringing back with them 2 giant lobsters and 2 huge snow crabs that were feeling quite frisky after their flight. Well.. they couldn’t escape the cooking pot and they were soon served up on a platter for our dinner… mwah ha ha….

These lobsters and crab was fabulously fresh.. we even had lobster sashimi… oh god!! Delicious!!!!

Birthday cake for my hubby!

 Front view of adam topper

Well… it’s my husband’s 34th birthday tomorrow. I wanted to do something really special for his birthday and decided to try making my first character topper for a Guiness Stout Chocolate Cake that i had decided to make for him.

A character topper is basically a topper for the cake but it is a person/ character rather than an animal or inanimate object. Anyway, my hubby has a passion for jamming… as in playing the guitar and not jamming as in making jam.. haha.. i know lame humour but well.. it’s 2.30am in the morning.. what do you expect!!! My brain’s dead after making the character, making the cake and frosting it!

Close up of adam topper face

Anyway, i decided to make a character topper that looks like him and which has him playing his guitar. As my hubby is also constantly wearing his black cap, i decided to add that onto the topper as well. After many hours of hard labour… this is the final product. As you can see i had lots of problems with the guitar neck as the thinness of the fondant in the neck of the guitar kept breaking.. after several breakages there was just no way i could properly repair it anymore so i had to leave it as is unless i wanted to redo everything again… arrghh.. Sigh.. i just hope no one notices it. The only other thing i guess would be the hands.. think i made them a little too big in relation to the rest of the body.. so i’ll have to adjust that next time as well.

Side view of adam topper

As for the birthday cake, i decided on a Guiness Stout Chocolate Cake. Yes.. this is a cake made using Guiness Stout. I can’t take alcohol at all to tell the truth since I’m allergic to alcohol.. but after baking the alcohol should have evaporated so it should taste great :) Plus the Stout supposedly makes the cake super moist and adds an additional dimension to the chocolate making it taste even more chocolatey than ever.. if that’s even possible :) I will also be frosting this with a beautiful thick chocolate frosting that tastes very much like a super thick nutella… totally yummilicious although too much will give me a super sugar rush. But that should suit my husband perfectly since he’s got a stupendously sweet tooth as many people can testify!!!

Chocolate cake

Anyway i have completed all the individual portions of the cake but have yet to assemble it yet. I’ll be leaving the assembly till tomorrow while i head to bed right now. I’ll show you pictures of the completed cake tomorrow :)

Top front view of adam topper

Oh and by the way.. the little black dot on his right pec. is not a nipple!!  haha…. that’s just a smudge from the guitar.. but i have to admit he does look a little like a nipple doesn’t it :p maybe i should draw in the other one to even it out.. hee hee…

Westie Cupcakes for a birthday….

 Westie and toys

Another doggy birthday cupcake request came in from my cousin a couple of days a ago… but the twist was that she asked if i could do the dogs to look like West Highland Terriers or a Westie (as its usually called), since the birthday boy had just recently bought a Westie. So once again, with the order and theme of the cupcakes in place, i started looking for pictures of Westies to ensure that i got the right feel of the Westie before i start to model them using fondant.

Hungry Westie

After hours of looking at gorgeously cute Westie pictures on Google… which wasn’t really a chore considering I’m a major dog lover, i decided on a couple of poses for the cupcake toppers and quickly set about to do up the little Westies.

Westie on cupcake close up view

Due to the amount of detail i wanted on the face, they took me a little longer than expected, but i think they actually turned out quite cute… the only thing i regret not having captured well is the fluffiness of the Westie’s face. However, overall, i was quite satisfied with what i achieved.

In addition to the toppers, I decided to also try out a new flavour of cupcakes – Guiness Stout Chocolate cupcakes!! I’d been dying to this recipe out for ages, and since these cuppers were all going to adults i finally got my chance to do so :) After mixing all the ingredients in and adding the all important vital ingredient of Stout, i popped them into the oven and waited anxiously for them to finish baking. Once they were out, i quickly tore one up to check for crumb texture and fluffiness. Surprisingly, these little fellas were deliciously rich and moist and were a little denser than the normal cakes i made. But for a chocolate cupcake, the denseness just made them taste all the more delicious! The Stout flavour wasn’t as strong as i expected but had mellowed to a very subtle yeasty flavour that complimented quite well with the chocolate. This is definitely going into my repertoire of new cake flavours :) Hopefully the birthday boy will like them..  :)

Well this is the completed product… i hope these will be a hit at the party!

Pooh and friends cupcakes for a girl named Winnie…

Pooh n friends on plate

Well.. i had a request for birthday cupcakes for Winnie as this was to be her first birthday celebration back in Singapore after 7 years of being overseas. So after some thought, I had a “brilliant” idea… do Winnie the Pooh cupcakes.. haha.. yes.. that’s not brilliant.. I KNOW.. that’s why the brilliant was in parenthesis!! :) haha….

However, I was thinking that rather than just doing Pooh… I’d do all the other characters of Pooh as well. I mean i might as well go all out right :) So after lots of hours of research and staring at gazillions of google pages for the indivdual characters, I finally decided to start on making the pooh and friends toppers. I finally narrowed it down to making pooh, piglet, eeyore, tigger, roo and heffalump.

PoohPigletEeyoreTiggerRooHeffalump

If you were to guess which was the hardest to make… which would you pick? I originally thought Tigger would be the hardest.. but surprise surprise i found out that Eeyore was actually the hardest.. i never realised how many colours eeyore had!!! Any rate after slaving over the toppers for 2 days… i was actually quite happy with the end result.

What do you think? :)
