Rosaline called me up the other day and asked if i could do some cupcakes for her to celebrate her baby’s 1st month. Of course being neighbours and her husband being my hubby’s ex-colleague i of course agreed.

After discussing with Rosaline, we finally decided that the design of the cupcakes would be the same as the previous ones i’d done here. I love making these cupcakes as i think the sweet pea design and baby booties are so cute

Anyway after doing up the cupcakes i decided to make a little cake to go along with the cupcakes as a gift to Alan and Rosaline. There are lots of ideas for baby shower cakes out there and many of them are just gorgeous.. but as i wanted to do something a little different and incorporate both the parents and baby in the cake theme, i finally decided to make 2 figurines to represent Alan and Rosaline, and Rosaline holding the baby Rachel in her arms.

As i also wanted to incorporate elements of the baby theme, i decided to place the figurines sitting at the side of the cake so i could decorate the top of the cake with the baby cradle and other baby things. This was how the final cake turned out.. i thought it looked quite cute and was really happy with how it turned out

Here’s a picture of Alan, Rosaline and baby Rachel with their cake
Hmm… does anyone think that the figurines look anything like Alan and Rosaline?? haha….

Joanne contacted me after her daughter attended Keisha’s Ariel and underwater themed birthday party. Apparently Joanne’s daughter, Khairina had loved the Ariel cupcake at Keisha’s party, but as the Ariel cupcake had been reserved for Keisha, Khairina had to settle for the little Flounder cupcake instead. As such, Joanne called me asking if i could do some Ariel and underwater themed cupcakes for her daughter for her birthday party which was coming up.

I of course agreed as i always like making kids happy, and seeing their exclamations of happiness and surprise upon seeing the cute and unexpected cupcakes always makes my day
After some discussion with Joanne, we finally settled on the individual designs for the cupcakes and i soon began work on them. One of the cupcakes of course had to be an Ariel cupcake which after my previous experience had helped a lot in making the Ariel this time. I think i did better this time in making Ariel although i still think it’s a far cry from looking exactly like Ariel.. :p But i think it was a pretty good attempt on my part :)

I didn’t manage to get many good photos and these were the few of the better photos that i managed to take.. so i do apologise for the few photos :p Happy Birthday Khairina!! Hope you liked the Ariel cupcakes!

Cassie who had previously ordered the Beagle cupcakes from me called me up again the other day and asked if i could do another set of cupcakes for her. This time she wanted some cow cupcakes and asked if i could do them for her. Of course i immediately agreed, seeing as i just finished a cow cake for Valerie and loved how the little cows turned out there :)
Cassie’s request was quite simple.. she wanted a box of 9 cupcakes 5 of which had to be cows holding the name HELEN and the other 4 would be decorated with flowers. So i happily started making the cows and flowers and these were the final results
Cute little fellas aren’t they

Wenqi’s friend Valerie contacted me soon after Wenqi’s birthday saying that she loved the cake i did for Wenqi and was wondering if i could make a cake for her birthday as well. I was ecstatic upon hearing this and told Valerie that of course i would be delighted to do her cake.

On our first discussion Valerie told me that she would really really love if i could do a cake with all the soot sprites/ soot balls as she loved them. Unfortunately after some discussion we agreed that visually if the cake was full of soot sprites it may not look very visually attractive. So we decided to go with her pyjama themed party to come up with cake ideas.

The initial idea we came up with was to do a girl in pyjamas with sheep around.. i.e. counting sheep.. but Valerie being the zany and off the wall girl that she is decided to that she wanted cows instead of sheep.. haha..
It was a zany idea.. but hey.. it’s cute right
So we finally decided on doing a 9″ chocolate cake filled with chocolate buttercream and covered with fondant. The cake would be topped with a little girl in pyjamas holding a soot sprite and having cows surround her.

I thought this cake turned out fabulous and i was very very happy with the way the girl figurine came out considering it’s only my 3rd attempt at making a human figurine. I could see Valerie was very happy with the cake when she collected it and her surprised and happy exclamation made my day
Happy birthday once again Valerie and thanks for giving me the opportunity to do the cake. It was great fun!!

Nicholas contacted me the other day and asked if i could do 2 cakes for her niece, Patrice, whose birthday would be on Saturday. The lucky little girl would be having 2 parties, one in the afternoon and another one in the evening. Isn’t she so lucky!!! 2 parties and 2 birthday cakes!!! Wow!!! I never got 2 cakes?! haha…

Anyhow, after speaking to Nic, who told me that her niece loves Lumpy from Pooh, the colour pink and Hello Kitty, Nic decided that one cake would be a Pooh and friends cake with Heffalump who is known as Lumpy to her niece
and the other cake would be a Hello Kitty cake and of course it had to be pink!! Along with the 2 cakes, they also wanted some cupcakes to go with the cake.

I decided to make the pooh cake to resemble them having a little picnic with a mini birthday cake and presents to represent Patrice’s birthday. In addition to these, Nic and i also decided that we should add some balloons, bees, and butterflies to the cake so that these decorations could also be carried through to the cupcakes as well.

As for the Hello Kitty cake, Nic siad it had to be a white and pink themed cake, and as for the cupcakes, she decided on some rainbow cupcakes, flower cupcakes and heart cupcakes.

Hopefully these cupcakes and cakes make the this birthday girl a very very happy girl
Happy birthday Patrice!!!

Amanda contacted me the other day and asked me if i could do some pooh and friend cupcakes for her friend who was celebrating her birthday.

Amanda requested for Eeyore as one of the friends and as i don’t get a lot of requests for Eeyore specifically i had a really fun time making him and had a good time making some changes to the way i make Eeyore as compared to the previous times i made him. I think he turned out much better as compared to my previous attempts and was quite happy with the way he turned out.
I know there’s a lot of Pooh and friend posts about my Pooh cupcakes.. but well.. haha.. everyone likes Pooh right?!
I hope the birthday girl liked the cupcakes

I got a mail from Serena the other day asking if i could make some underwater theme cupcakes for her daughter Keisha that was celebrating her 4th birthday. Keisha’s birthday party theme was The Little Mermaid/ Underwater theme. Of course, the cupcakes had to include Ariel and Flounder the stars of the show right
After some discussion, we finally settled on the design and had a mix of both Finding Nemo and The Little Mermaid, and well.. some generic underwater sea creatures
This would be my very first attempt at making Ariel and having to make her small enough to fit on a standard sized cupcake no less!!!
After a few attempts, i finally managed to make the mermaid small enough to fit on the cupcake, but due to it’s size i couldn’t add as much detail to her as i wanted to. Making Ariel’s face was also difficult, partially due to its size and also just her look! No matter how many attempts i made at modelling her, i couldn’t seem to capture her look exactly. This was the one that i was most satisfied with in the end.. but I’m not sure to what extent i managed to capture her likeness. My super frank hubby had no compunctions however about telling me later that he didn’t think it looked like Ariel
Wah!!! Now i can’t seem to stop my mind from analyzing what exactly was it that is off
I only hope that the birthday girl still liked the cupcakes even though it seems i wasn’t successful in my attempts at modelling Ariel
As for the rest of the cupcakes, well it was super fun to make all the different sea creatures and i would have to say, the one i liked the best was the little pipe corals i made
I loved the bright colours of the cupcakes as well with all the little sea creatures all on it!
Happy 4th Birthday Keisha!!! I understand that this birthday cupcakes are different from the usual birthday cake you receive, so i hope it was a nice surprise for you
I also hope you liked the cupcakes and I’m so sorry if my little mermaid didn’t look enough like Ariel
Oh, i also do have to apologise for the lack of nice photos. I thought i managed to get some good photos, but when i loaded them up on my computer i realised a lot of them were actually blur! Such a sotong i am.. think it’s time i get my eyes checked again! :p

Jolene e-mailed me the other day asking if i could do her birthday cake and some cupcakes to go with it as well. She had found a picture of the cake and cupcakes that she wanted.. or at least the rough design and asked if i could do something similar for her. The design she wanted was simple but pretty and was basically a small cake with a female topper on the top with lots of colourful flowers all over the cake. The matching cupcakes were topped with swirls of frosting topped with matching flowers that matched the cake.

After looking through the photos of the cake and cupcakes she sent me, i told Jolene that it wouldn’t be a problem to do the cake. However, Jolene later mentioned that she didn’t really like the female topper and wouldn’t mind if i changed it up a bit although she did like the general design of the cake.

I was quite excited to do the cake as this was my official 2nd cake order.. plus i’d get to practice making my figurines!! Yay!! I love doing figurines although i still think that i have a long way to go to make them look more realistic. But i guess for this being my 2nd attempt, i thought the figurines looked pretty good

The cake i did for Jolene is a 6″ butter cake with buttercream frosting which was covered with a layer of fondant. This is my favourite buttercake recipe and i usually can’t stop eating it whenever i make it.. :p I just hope that Jolene liked the cake as well as i do. Unfortunately the buttercream which was suppose to crust, wasn’t co-operating well with me today due to the humidity and general cloudy weather. So I ended up with a buttercream that didn’t crust which caused me a little bit of trouble when i tried to smooth the fondant. Luckily it didn’t turn out too bad and i was able to start decorating the cake which is my favourite part

I think I’m getting better at making the figurines don’t you :). As for the cupcakes, these are my new and improved nutella cupcakes… with a little surprise inside (which is a whole spoonful of you guessed it! NUTELLA!! Yummy). The cupcakes were swirled with frosting and topped with little flower toppers. I thought they still looked a little plain with just the flower, so decided to add some sprinkles to it. Sprinkles are my all time favourite accessories as i think they really help me to jazz up anything with just a snap of my fingers. :) Trust me these cupcakes are to die for! My hubby swallowed 3 down at one go and he’s supposed to be on a diet!!! haha…

As the title says.. that’s exactly what my friend requested for his cupcakes! Haha.. a little off the wall i know.. but i thought it was quite funny and cute

These cupcakes were for his girlfriend who had recently quit her job to join him in his company at Kallang. I believe the “Happy Family” slogan and the 2 penguins with the “Just for Laughs” monster was to represent the 2 of them working happily as a family in the company, with the 2 penguins representing each of them and the little monster, i assume would be the company. But then again.. haha.. i may be wrong. It’s just a wild guess on my part :p

Anyway, I had come across the idea for these penguins a long time back and have been dying to make them ever since so this request was the perfect opportunity for me to try out the penguins! Plus.. the “Just for Laughs” monster was just so fun to make!!!
I thought the cupcakes turned out pretty darn cute don’t you

My husband’s ex-colleague and his wife, who coincidentally just stays a couple of floors below us, recently gave birth to a baby girl who is the cutest little thing.
As they are both really nice and did my hubby and I a favour while we were on holiday, i decided to surprise them by making some cupcakes for them to welcome their new baby girl
After surfing the internet to get some inspiration, i finally settled on the toppers i wanted for the cupcakes. Next was to decide on what sized cupcakes to make for them.. after considering, i decided to make some little mini cupcakes for them as they would go well with the new baby theme and in addition i thought if they do have friends or family over to visit the new baby, these little cupcakes could be used as snacks for their guest since the mother is still in her confinement period and won’t be able to eat the little cupcakes.
So after deciding on both the design and size of the cupcakes, i now was left with deciding the flavour and of course decided in favour of chocolate cupcakes.. simply cos who can resist a chocolate cupcake right?!
So off i went to make the little toppers which included baby shoes, a bib and baby rattler, a baby bottle and lastly, and what i thought was the cutest, a little baby in a pea pod
I dusted the completed toppers with some edible glitter just to give them that extra shine and went on to make my cupcakes.
Deciding that babies are always associated with pastel colours, i frosted the cupcakes with a pale yellow frosting using the grass tip and placed the completed toppers on top of frosted cupcakes. Overall i think they turned out really cute although i think i might have underestimated the size of the mini cupcakes and made my little toppers a bit too small :p The weather was again playing havoc with my frosting so they looked more shiny and were a little droopier as compared to my usual batch. I had decided against adding more icing sugar to stiffen up the icing as i didn’t want the cupcakes to turn out too sweet… but on a whole, i was quite happy with the way they looked

Off my hubby and I went to pass these little cuppies to Alan and Rosaline and had a little visit with their new baby daughter Rachel. She was a delight and so cute! And most surprising of all, very awake and alert for someone who is only about a week old. While we were there her eyes were wide open and was looking all around as she heard our unfamiliar voices..
It wasn’t until about a half hour later before she finally closed her little eyes for a nap. So cute she is!
Congratulations Alan and Rosaline on your brand new baby girl!
